I agree with you that she won't be number one anymore. Effective top 20 player, well that would be her place. But to say that she is going to get back to number 1? No that's too much. We all saw how many top 10 players surpassed her in pace and power. And her weak serve wont help her with nowadays tennis.

I am hoping for the best for Hingis but for now the best is, as far I can see, is the top 20.

I think that Martina Hingis would struggle on the Tour now, simply because weight
of shot across the board has increased and returning has become continuously
more aggressive / damaging. These factors mitigate greatly against Hingis'
stengths: court craft and tactical awareness. Hingis could definitely
still be a solid and effective top 20 player – but given her career and what she
achieved in the past, would she really want that?

I very muich doubt it.

yes, the wtt seems to be a perfect practice ground as a preparation. Proved to be for kim clijsters. But who says she’ll make a come back?

When she returned from her first retirement, she did it at WTT. She led the New York Sportimes to a "King Cup" championship.

Great question Mr. Waston! That should be in the mind of every tennis fan. If anyone can do it, you'd think that would be Roger for the superman like consistency and professionalism he demonstrated in the last decade. Plus he got so close in 2009, and had chances in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Even Laver wasn't that close so many times. But somehow it is still elusive to Roger. We know Roger plays for the love of the game and not for the records and that is precisely why he is breaking so many. Hopefully he will end the drought this year.

Sara, you make exactly the points about Maria that I was going to make myself! As Tracy Austin said at 6-1 *5-4 in the Wimbledon 2004 final, Maria is mentally tough enough to melt a nail!
