The USTA announced today a series of expanded fan enhancements and programming for the 2009 US Open. This year’s Opening Night ceremony will celebrate athletes who “give back” with a special appearance by Andre Agassi and other notable athletes.

It was an historic day at Wimbledon Monday when the $225 million retractable roof was used for the first time, when it was closed for the conclusion of the women’s round of 16 match between No. 1 seed Dinara Safina and 2006 Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo.

In celebrating the grand opening of the Tennis Dome at the Sportsplex, Turning Stone Resort • Casino will be hosting their first professional event. Four former world No. 1 players – John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Tracy Austin and Anna Kournikova – will compete in a “Legendary Night” to be held Saturday, May 2 at 7pm at the Turning Stone Event Center.
The USTA announced today that tennis Hall-of-Famer and two-time US Open Champion Tracy Austin will serve as a special consultant for USTA Player Development. Austin will assist in the coaching of female players at the USTA’s West Coast Training Center in Carson, Calif., and will report to Patrick McEnroe, General Manager, USTA Player Development.
