Croatia stands just one win away from a third incredible win over the United States in Davis Cup play. Croatia, in fact, is the only nation the United States has never beaten in Davis Cup play and it will remain as such unless James Blake and Mardy Fish can sweep Marin Cilic and Ivo Karlovic in Sunday’s reverse singles.

What happened the last time the U.S. Davis Cup team traveled to Croatia? Ironically, Andy Roddick was not in the U.S. line-up due to exhaustion and injury following a marathon match at a Grand Slam tournament – as is the case this week following his 16-14 fifth-set loss to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final on Sunday

Today, March 10, is a big day in tennis history for Hall of Famer Jim Courier, who, as excerpted from my book “ON THIS DAY IN TENNIS HISTORY” ($19.95, New Chapter Press, www.newchapterpressmedia.com), won one of the first major titles of his career back in 1991 in Indian Wells, Calif. (the current day BNP Paribas Open).
