Top seed Raven Klaasen, of South Africa, and No. 2 seed Yuichi Ito, of Japan, fell in the second round at the Time Warner Cable “Road Runner Pro Tennis Classic,” held at the Western Racquet Club from August 4-10.

Maria Sharapova is the most recent example with the reigning Australian Open champion pulling out of the Beijing Games - and the U.S. Open - with a shoulder injury. Other recent pullouts include Marcos Baghdatis, Mario Ancic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Roddick Bows Out
The toppling of the big names continued Thursday with American Andy Roddick failing to get to the quarterfinals. Roddick was knocked out by fast rising Croatian giant (he’s 6′6″) Marin Cilic. Cilic may still appear to look awkward being so tall yet only 180lbs, but there was nothing awkward about his punishing forehand.
Bill Mountford: Final Thoughts From Newport
Some final thoughts from Newport, Rhode Island and the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Championships… It was a treat to see “The Magician”, Fabrice Santoro, defend a title for the first time in his long career. The Frenchman did not lose a set all week at the Hall of Fame Championships.

Ask Bill: Here Comes Taylor Dent

TD is a net-rushing Californian who has been sidetracked for over two years with a career-threatening back injury. In fact, his situation seemed so dire that he began a career as an on-court teaching professional.
