Federer Snaps Nadal’s Streak, Wins 4th Hamburg Masters Title

Roger Federer captured his fourth Hamburg Masters title at the expense of world number two, Rafael Nadal, 2-6,6-2,6-0, in one hour and fifty-five minutes. Snapping Nadal’s 81-winning streak, Federer gained revenge for his loss to his Spanish foe during the final round at this year’s Monte Carlo Masters.

Federer struggled in the first set and got his serve broken twice by Nadal. In the second set, Federer found his rhythmm and turned the table against Nadal, in return, breaking the Spaniard’s serve twice to force a deciding third set.

“I’m not taking a coach because I know what it takes to win. I don’t want anyone interfering,” the Swiss said.

Federer lived up to his previously issued statement, fashioning out a 6-0 in the third set of the match to win his fourth Hamburg Masters title.

It is interesting to note that on his way to the Hamburg title, Federer had to beat three Spaniards who had all won the French Open crown, Juan Carlos Ferrero in the third, Carlos Moya in the semis, and Rafael Nadal, in the final.
