World number one Justine Henin beat Tatiana Golovin 6-4 6-4 in the Zurich Open finale. The Belgian beat the young Frenchie in a finale for the second time after their battle in the finale of Stuttgart two weeks ago.
Early on Golovin seemed on her way to win the first set after being up 4-1 but at that point Henin started to play better and being more aggressive forcing the French to make errors. With the momentum swinging, Henin won 6 straight games to win the set.
“I needed a bit of time to come into the match today as Tatiana was putting me under a lot of pressure but slowly, but surely I came back.” Said Henin after the match.
The second set was a much easier affair for the world number one as she broke early and she has never looked back serving out the match at 5-4 after a little over an hour and a half of play.
The Belgian was full of joy after her 9th title of the season, “It’s been the best season of my career and to win my ninth title of the year is pretty amazing.”
Golovin, who will attain her best ranking to date as number 13, was full of praise for her opponent: “She is so solid, but she has also been a great inspiration to me, and the more I play against top players like Justine the more I hope to learn.”
After winning her 38th title Henin said she now need to go home and relax a bit to recover before playing the season finale-WTA Championship, which takes place in Madrid in two weeks time.
