Lucky Seed Craybas Through To The Next In Cincinnati

In the first round of the Cincinnati Open Jill Craybas had an easy opener versus Alexa Glatch winning in straight sets 6-2,6-4 on Tuesday.

Craybas had a long night playing a charity event in Newport and only found out on her way over to Cincinatti that she was a seeded player after 2 other players had withdrawn from the tournament.

“I called to see who I was playing, and (a tournament official) said, ‘Oh, by the way, you’re seeded,”‘ said the American. “It’s always nice to be seeded. That way, you don’t play a seeded player in the first round.”

Others who reached the next round at the Cincinatti Women’s open are; Elena Vesnina (6) who defeated Angelika Bachmann 6-3, 6-4. Not all the seeds were so lucky to make it to the second round. Aiko Nakamura, the number 5 seed, fell to qualifier Anna Tatishvilli in 3 sets 1-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Next to Tatishvili, 2 other qualifiers made it to the second round. Dutch veteran Brenda Schultz-McCarthy  defeated Catalina Castano in 2 sets 6-2,6-4 while Anda Perianu defeated Melinda Czink 6-3, 6-2.

All results:

Bethanie Mattek – Iryna Kuryanovich 6-1, 6-3
Varvara Lepchenko – Kirsten Flower 6-2, 6-2
Akgul Amanmuradova – Connie Hsu    6-1, 6-3
