Henin Sails To The Next

To start off Justine’s Wimbledon’s journey, she started off by playing Argentine player Jorgelina Cravero. This is the first time these two women meet. Cravero is ranked 117 in the world.

In the first set, we saw Justine having to try and adjust to the court because she did not have much time to  adjust to the surface quickly before the match because she had 15 minutes before the match and 10 minutes yesterday to hit. Although Justine was able to win the first 6-3. It seemed lke both women were having a bit of trouble adjusting to the surface and its bounce.

In the second set,  we started to see Justine adjusting more to the surface and hitting much better than the first, while Cravero was still struggling with her game. Justine started to focus more, hit better, and started to take more advantage of Cravero’s weak shots and unforced errors.  Second set was very lobsided to Justine as she took it 6-0.

“It’s been tough because I couldn’t hit yesterday and only 10 minutes this morning, then in a rush a little bit in the afternoon 15 more minutes, I wasn’t in a good rhythm in the beginning in the rallies. I was too far from my baseline. At the end I was beginning to feel much better on the court and trying to come a little bit more to the net.” [quoted by Justine]

Well I’m glad she is feeling much better now after this match today. Coming directly from Eastbourne, yes it would give her lots of confidence but it is also a Grand Slam and it is very nerve wracking to walk out on your first match and begin another journey at a tournament like Wimbledon. I’m glad she pulled through and found her grasscourt form in the second set for her to prepare for the second round match.

The next match for Justine is to be played on Wednesday June 27th, letting that the rain holds out at Wimbledon. Justine’s next opponent is Vera Dushevina of Russia. Justine has played Vera twice and in both occasions, Justine had won in straight sets. The last time they met was last year at the Medibank International in Sydney Australia.
