Justine Henin Takes Home Third Consecutive Roland Garros Crown

Belgian Justine Henin has won the French Open tennischampionship Roland Garros for the 4th time in her career. Henin overpowered Serbian supertalent Ana Ivanovic in straight sets: 6-1, 6-2.

Henin, who turned 25 last week, won the tournament before in 2003, 2005 and 2006. She was the topseed in Paris. 19 year old Ana Ivanovic was the 7th seed.

Ivanovic had a dreamstart by breaking Henin’s serve immediately. She had the oppertunity to take a 2-0 lead but then her nerves got the better of her.
After that it never really became a match on Centre Court. Henin was too powerful for Ivanovic , who severely punished Maria Sharapova in the semi’s.

“I started getting nervous,” Ivanovic said. “I couldn’t control the serve, and she used that well.”

With her third consecutive tournament win at Roland Garros, Henin matched Monica Seles’ record of the early 90s.

“It’s surreal to win for the third time in a row,” Henin said. “I am struggling to take it in.”

Henin divorced her husband earlier this year and because of that she withdrew from the Australian Open. In Paris however her family , with who she severed ties in the past, was in the stands to support her once again.
“Justine is really at home here,” said her brother, Thomas. “This is really her home terrain.”

“I had some very tough times at the start of the year,” Henin said. “I hung in there these last few months. And now I’ve found an immense pleasure on the court once more.”

Henin has now won 6 Grandslam titles. Next to the 4 French Open titles, she won the US Open once as well as the Australian Open.
