Sharapova and Kuznetsova go to the next
Maria Sharapova has made it to the second round but was made to fight against French woman Emilie Loit.On a rainy centrecourt the Russian proved too strong for the French beating Loit in straight sets 6-3 and 7/6.
The score however doesn’t say much about the match. Loit took a 4-2 lead in the second set before Sharapova decided to pick up the pace and took charge of the match.
Loit however wasn’t giving up and took the match to a tiebreak before she eventually lost. The tiebreaker ended in 7-4 for Sharapova who now meets Jill Craybas of the USA. Last year Sharapova reached the 4th round at Roland Garros.
Kuznetsova
Third seeds Svetlana Kuznetsova also reached the second round. In an all Russian match versus Ekaterina Bychkova,she proved to be the stronger one: 6-0, 6-3.
She now faces Meghan Shaughenessy who crushed 2004 winner Anastasia Myskina : 6-1, 6-0.
