Elina Svitolina A Rising Star In Women’s Tennis
Elina Svitolina is one of the bright young stars in women’s tennis today and has secured her position as the WTA’s highest ranked teenager in the world.
Svitolina, 19, made her top 100 debut in February last year, and ranks No. 35 after the Family Circle Cup where she registered an upset of Sloane Stephens. Svitolina has also beaten Roberta Vinci at the Open GDF Suez in Paris and WTA’s 2013 newcomer of the year, Eugenie Bouchard at the Sony Open in Miami.
Svitolina emerged as one to watch when she won the 2010 Roland Garros girls’ event at just 15 years old, followed by the 2013 Baku Cup in July when she was 18, making her the first teenager to win a WTA tournament since February 2012. Most recently, she reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time at the 2014 Australian Open in January, having beaten Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Said Svitolina of her recent success: “I’m thrilled to be the WTA’s highest-ranked teenager in the world. I’m having so much fun playing tennis and getting the opportunity to compete against some amazing players. I’ve been working hard to improve and I’m really looking forward to playing in Madrid, Rome and of course Roland Garros, over the next couple of months. I’m very competitive so I hope I can keep improving and raise my ranking even further before the end of the year.”
Svitolina was announced as the latest ambassador for global sportswear brand ellesse at the beginning of this year and exclusively competes and trains in their tennis apparel.
Marco Ellerker, ellesse global brand president said: “ellesse has a rich heritage in tennis and as we look to the future, we are delighted to be supporting such an exceptional young talent in Elina. Her determination and positive attitude to life embodies everything ellesse stands for and of course she looks fantastic in the our new designs!”
