Darren Cahill joins adidas Tennis Player Development Program
Herzogenaurach/Indian Wells, March 13th, 2009 - Tennis coach Darren Cahill has joined the renowned adidas Player Development Program and will work alongside Sven Groeneveld and Gil Reyes in nurturing adidas Tennis talent over the coming years.
A former professional tennis player, Darren Cahill made his name as a coach working with Andre Agassi among others. The 43-year-old brings a wealth of coaching experience to the adidas Player Development Program which was created in 2006 to address the individual needs of both junior and professional tennis players.
The adidas Player Development Program offers a unique mix of advice and support, from coaching and fitness training through to hitting partners, nutritional advice and career management plans. Darren Cahill will work with Sven Groeneveld as on-court coaches and advisors, while Gil Reyes provides players with off-court fitness training and mentoring.
Speaking at the first Masters Series event of the 2009 season at Indian Wells, Darren Cahill said he was excited to join such a ground breaking program,” I have followed the evolution of the adidas Player Development Program over the past three years and believe strongly in its objectives of providing world class players with an extra support team to aid their long term career planning. I am eager to get fully involved in the adidas Player Development Program team and excited to renew my working relationship with Gil Reyes at home in Las Vegas.”
The adidas Player Development Program is overseen by Jim Latham, Head of adidas Global Sports Marketing Tennis who says, “It is my pleasure to welcome Darren in to the adidas Tennis family. We are delighted to bring on board another world class coach to help shape and mentor our players as they climb to new heights in the junior and professional rankings.”
Jim Latham goes on to explain, “This program was created with the spirit and vision of Adi Dassler in mind – helping athletes reach their full potential via a collaborative effort and true teamwork. In modern day sport, it is unlikely that any one coach or mentor can provide all the expertise and insights that are required to become world class. The program strives to complement the player’s own team with additional advice and motivation.”
Fernando Verdasco, Caroline Wozniacki, Sania Mirza, Grigor Dimitrov, Laura Robson, Raluca Olaru and Sorana Cirstea are some of the players currently participating in the program, which does not replace their own personal trainers but instead gives them an extra helping hand to build a career. Over 30 additional players including Ana Ivanovic and Dinara Safina, have used this free service at various stages in the past three years.
