Chakvetadze Takes Kremlin Cup Title

Anna Chakvetadze added the Kremlim Cup title to her credit when she beat fifth seed Nadia Petrova, 6-4, 6-4, in one and a half hour. She further stretched her dominance over Petrova in career head-to-head wins  to 3-0.

With both thighs heavily strapped, Petrova’s mobility was limited compared with Chakvetadze’s who had  greater court coverage. Chakvetadze then broke Petrova in the ninth game of the first set before holding her serve for a 6-4 first set win. In the second set, Chakvetadze raced to a 4-1 lead but Petrova fought back, narrowing Chakvetadze’s  lead. In the end, Chakvetadze  prevailed 6-4.

“I was a little bit lucky today because Nadia was obviously not 100 percent fit,” said Chakvetadze. “But still I’m very happy to win in here in Moscow.”

“I’m not going to make a tragedy out of this,” an optimistic Petrova said.”I did what I could today. I had three parts of my body taped before the match and it obviously affected my play and limited my movement.”
